Landscaping Material Delivered in Caledonia, MN

What do you order for a bed, a path, or a dry creek that has to survive a Driftless slope? For gravel and aggregate delivery in Caledonia, MN, Minnesota Rock Supply keeps the answer simple: start with Class 5 where you need a compacted base, then pick the decorative rock that finishes the job.

Everything is ordered online and tipped on site by dump truck.

Delivery to Caledonia and the Surrounding Area

Ordering online starts with a quantity. Choose it by the ton or by the yard, and each product page has a calculator if you want to size the load first.

Pick a delivery date at checkout and a dump truck tips the material in one pile at the address you give. That is the whole process, from order to pile on the ground.

Minnesota Rock Supply delivers bulk loads across Houston County, including La Crescent, Spring Grove, Houston, Hokah and Brownsville.

Materials for Caledonia Projects

Decorative work is where most Caledonia projects start, because the ground here gives you beds and slopes that need cover rather than turf.

For a dry creek bed or a heavier border, Large River Rock gives you the big round stone those features are built from. Minnesota River Rock does the same job at a smaller size for bed cover and rock mulch around a foundation.

Where the bed is walked on, 3/8" Natural Pea Gravel is the pea rock to order for paths and play areas. Set pavers or flagstone on Granite Fines, the screenings that bed a patio surface.

Every one of those decorative layers needs something under it. Class 5 is that base course for a drive or a parking pad, and it is the material to order before any of the finish stone goes down.

Ground and Conditions in Caledonia

Across the Driftless bluff and karst country, the ground is loess over limestone, dolostone and sandstone. It runs thin on the ridge tops and deep in the valleys, with rock showing on the bluffs and little or no glacial drift.

That soil punishes an under-built base. A shallow layer of stone over thin silty ground moves with the seasons, so the base course is the part worth getting right before any decorative rock goes on top.

Water here runs off steep slopes fast and then disappears into sinkholes and fractures instead of soaking in evenly. Surface flow is flashy, valley floors flood quickly, and a downspout aimed at a sinkhole goes straight to groundwater.

Plan a clean drainage layer for the wet spots. Drainage Rock is the 1 1/2 inch clear rock used for footing drains and downspout runs, and clear rock means washed with the fines taken out.

The season here is one of the longer ones in the state, running from the thaw into late autumn. Spring load limits go up on Southeast zone roads in early March and come off in April, so heavy deliveries fit better around that window.

Cold winters bring repeated freeze-thaw, and frost lifts slabs and walks on the thin, silty soils over rock. The Minnesota Residential Code footing table sets 3 feet 6 inches (42 inches) for its Zone II counties.
