Question 1

How much gravel will I need?

Accepted Answer

Coverage is determined by the space being filled and the installed depth. At a 2-inch depth, one ton of gravel covers approximately 100 square feet. A driveway generally needs 4 to 6 inches of material, especially where frost affects the base. For a closer estimate, try the free gravel calculator. Add the project length, width, and depth to find the tons needed.

Question 2

How much material may I order?

Accepted Answer

Order from one ton for a small patio or garden walk to multi-ton quantities for driveway or construction projects. At a 2-inch depth, one ton of gravel covers about 100 square feet. Not sure of the amount? Try our material calculator or call (651) 376-4294 for help calculating your project needs.

Question 3

How does gravel arrive?

Accepted Answer

Your material arrives by dump truck and is unloaded at an accessible spot on your property, such as a driveway or yard. The driver backs into the designated drop area, raises the truck bed, and places the aggregate in a pile. Spread smaller areas with a rake or shovel. For larger areas, equipment like a skid steer can move the material.

Question 4

Must I be home when my order arrives?

Accepted Answer

You usually do not need to be present when the order arrives. Mark the intended drop spot before delivery with cones, flags, or stakes. If the driver cannot get onto the property or cannot identify the location, they may call you. Share any access concerns or placement instructions when placing the order so the driver has them.

Question 5

When will delivery arrive?

Accepted Answer

Location and product availability affect delivery timing, though most orders can arrive in as little as 2 business days. Metro addresses and locations near supplier hubs may receive material sooner, while rural or remote deliveries can require slightly more time. Your order confirmation email will include an estimated delivery window. For materials needed by a specific date, contact us before ordering and we will try to meet your schedule.

Question 6

Which gravel works well for driveways?

Accepted Answer

For a driveway, use crushed stone or crusher run, also called dense grade aggregate. The rough, angular pieces compact and lock together to create a firm surface for vehicle traffic. Common driveway options are 3/4-inch crushed stone and 1/2-inch crusher run. Skip smooth, rounded pea gravel for driveways because tires can move it and it compacts less effectively. Review our product catalog for options offered in your area.

Question 7

How do pea gravel and crushed stone differ?

Accepted Answer

Pea gravel contains smooth, naturally rounded stones measuring about 1/4 to 1/2 inch across. It works well in walkways, garden beds, dog runs, and decorative landscape areas because it is comfortable underfoot. Crushed stone is made by breaking larger rock into angular pieces. Those pieces interlock and compact, making crushed stone a better fit for driveways, foundations, drainage, and structural work. Choose crushed stone where weight support and stability matter. Use pea gravel in decorative or low-traffic spaces.

Question 8

Can you deliver where I live?

Accepted Answer

Minnesota Rock Supply serves delivery locations across the state, from metro areas and suburbs to many rural communities. Enter your address at checkout to see if delivery is offered there. If your site is especially remote, call (651) 376-4294 to ask about availability.

Question 9

What happens if I buy too much or too little gravel?

Accepted Answer

Any extra aggregate remains at the property after delivery because excess material cannot be picked up. Leftover gravel can be used to fill low spots, edge garden areas, or refresh walkways. If the order falls short, place a new order for a second delivery. Check the gravel calculator before ordering to reduce the chance of either outcome. It is also good practice to order about 10% above the calculated amount for ground-level and compaction differences.

Question 10

Can one order include different products?

Accepted Answer

Each order currently contains one material type. Dump trucks carry material directly from the supplier, so different products cannot be mixed in transit. For a project needing more than one material, such as driveway-base crushed stone and pea gravel for a walkway, submit a separate order for each product. Every order includes free delivery, with no additional cost for multiple deliveries.

Question 11

What sets the price?

Accepted Answer

Your price depends on the material selected, the amount ordered, and the delivery location, so pricing may vary by region. Prices shown on the website include free delivery. The displayed price is the price due at checkout.

Question 12

Which payment methods can I use?

Accepted Answer

For online orders, you can pay with major debit or credit cards: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. Our encrypted checkout processes each payment securely. Cash, checks, and purchase orders are not accepted online. For payment arrangements on a large commercial order, call (651) 376-4294 to review the options.

Question 13

What is the refund policy?

Accepted Answer

Cancel before delivery dispatch and receive a full refund. Refunds are generally unavailable once bulk aggregate has been loaded for delivery or delivered to your property, since it cannot be returned. If you receive incorrect material or have a significant shortage, contact us immediately at (651) 376-4294. Read the refund policy page for full details.

Question 14

How can I figure out gravel needed for a project?

Accepted Answer

Measure the area's length, width, and planned depth to determine the gravel needed. Multiply those measurements for cubic feet, then divide by 27 to convert the result to cubic yards. A cubic yard of gravel weighs about 1.4 tons. Multiply the cubic-yard amount by 1.4 to find the tonnage. You can also use our free gravel calculator instead of calculating by hand. Enter the measurements to see the tons to order and the cost.

Question 15

Which gravel sizes are available?

Accepted Answer

Gravel sizes are generally identified by stone diameter. Available sizes commonly include 1/4-inch (pea gravel), 1/2-inch, 3/4-inch, 1-inch, 1-1/2 inch, and 2-inch stone. Small material, including pea gravel, works for decorative areas, patios, and walkways. For parking areas, driveways, and general landscaping, 3/4-inch crushed stone is a widely used medium size. Larger 1-1/2 inch and 2-inch stone can be used in French drains, for drainage, and for erosion control. Check our product page for the material types and sizes available for delivery in your area.
